Kanye West has filed paperwork to have his name legally changed to Ye. ABC News obtained a copy of the rapper’s petition, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles, in which he asked the judge to sign off on changing his legal name from Kanye Omari West to simply Ye. It is currently unknown when a decision on the request will be made. West’s attorney, Ekwan Rhow, has yet to respond to a request for comment from ABC News. The Grammy winner has been going by the nickname for years, even telling fans in a 2018 tweet “I am YE” and referencing himself as “the being formally known as Kanye West.” West’s eighth studio album, released in 2018, was also titled “Ye.”
